Due to Covid-19, hairdressers around Singapore ceased operations on April 22, opened with basic services on May 12 and established the “new normal” on June 2.
The “new normal” requires hairdressers to change all capes and towels after every service. Additionally, all hairdressing equipment has to be disinfected and sanitised after serving every customer.
They are also required to maintain at least one metre between individual customers, limiting the number of customers that can be served at any one time.
Cyndi Cheong, the 40-year-old owner of Bless Salon located next to ABC Brickworks Food Centre in Bukit Merah, expressed that “business is definitely not as good compared to last time [before Circuit Breaker], my profits actually went down by about 30 percent. But, [having] less customers is not bad because it is safer for me so I can conduct business with less risk”.
